Welcome back to the 3 Questions About Social Media interview.
Today, I’m with Anne Iarchy in Finchley, which used to be Margaret Thatcher’s constituency.
Anne is a weight loss coach and a prolific user of social media.
Anne, you’ve been using social media for quite a while. Which one is the most effective, the most engaging medium that you use?
It’s actually an interesting question because there are quite a few platforms that I am using.
It changes over time but the ones that at the moment are really good for me are my Facebook group as well as LinkedIn.
What kind of posts do you put out on LinkedIn and on Facebook?
So on LinkedIn, I put out some regular videos. I publish some posts with pictures as well as posts without pictures. And I mix it up quite a lot throughout the week.
When it comes to my Facebook group, it’s more about really looking for interaction, asking people questions, motivating people, supporting people.
Live streams work very well on Facebook groups, too. A bit less videos as such but definitely live streams.
How do you create your videos?
On my phone. I try and keep them short, so up to one minute. Mainly because then I can also share them on Instagram.
And then I do as little editing as possible because that’s one of the things I hate doing.
I can understand that. What brought you to actually use video? Why?
I think video is a great way for people to see you before they contact you, to get your vibe.
For me it’s very important to be as natural as possible on the video. So that when people come and see me they know who they’re going to meet.
I don’t put makeup on in my videos because people are going to see me without makeup.
It’s really a way for people to get to know you way better than just a post, and they can see the person behind it.
You just mentioned Instagram. Is that a major platform for you or just by the bye?
At the moment it’s by the bye. I post regularly on Instagram but I haven’t seen much traction yet. Mainly because there’s obviously a massive thing about hashtags and all the other bits and pieces that is much harder to get right.
And what is the most effective and most successful platform for you so far?
Both LinkedIn and my Facebook group.
Roughly in the same ratio, or for some people one more than the other? Have you got any date on that one?
I don’t at the moment, no.
And the last question: What would be your three top tips for people who want to use social media to promote their business?
Be consistent. That’s the one thing because posting once a week is not enough.
A few different types of posts all the time, you know, between videos, posts about yourself, post a tip, post about your business. Mix it up all the time.
And then, never give up, really, because it takes time for people to know you, like you and start feeling comfortable enough to comment and interact with you.
It’s all about trust building, absolutely, that’s right.
And the final bonus question is: If people want to get in touch with you on social media, what’s the best platform to find you?
So on Facebook, my Facebook group is called: IT’S NOT ABOUT THE SCALES. And on LinkedIn, under my name, ANNE IARCHY.
